What I Read Wednesday: 6 March 2019
I planned to read a friend’s novel last week when we traveled. I had it out to pack with my books, and then I remembered that if I purchased it from the airport, that would help my friend and her book. But, sadly, the airport didn’t have the book. So I had no fiction for vacation. I saw A Simple Favor in the airport bookstore and thought I might prefer reading the book over watching the movie. I’m super-cheap, though, so I saved $5 and bought the ibooks version. It was a really good read—a few TMI details, truly unlikeable characters, but a clever story. I just finished it as I read most of it, in a hammock in Cancun. ☀️ Also, randomness...we watched Crazy Rich Asians on the plane and it was a HOOT! We laughed out loud several times.
I miss it already, y’all. Luckily, the Joyful book club is still going strong for another month, so I can still keep this one around. If you haven’t already, look up Ingrid Fetell Lee’s TED Talk on Joy. Then read this book—she is obviously brilliant, but also totally real and approachable. I would classify this as a handbook, because each section led me to some sort of action. I could talk about Joyful for days, y’all—I really, really love this book. I’m so glad Kayci found it! I’ve lost track of how many ways she’s implemented Ingrid Fetell Lee’s suggestions...our house is even more joyful than before, if you can imagine. 🌈
